Alghero
Alghero was founded in the twelfth century by the Genoese Doria family. W 1353 The city was overrun by the Aragonese. Alghero was one of the seven royal cities in Sardinia. W 1720 year, control over the city was taken over by the Savoy dynasty of Piedmont. Nevertheless, Catalan traditions are still alive in Alghero today., and some of the inhabitants still speak Catalan (even some street names are left in this language).
Alghero is an exceptionally beautiful city, surrounded by medieval walls with characteristic towers. You can meet here many Gothic churches. The Saracen Tower towers over the city. Around there are beautiful beaches with numerous, picturesque grottoes: Grotta di Nettuno (Neptune's Grotto), Grotta Verde and Grotta dei Ricami. The landscape inland is dominated by viticulture, which form a green belt stretching to the horizon. The vineyards here produce some of Sardinia's most famous wines: Vermentino di Sardegna and Cannonau di Sardegna.
The Alghero DOC appeal has existed since 1995 year. In a short time, Alghero became one of the most interesting wines produced on the island. Its share in the total production of DOC wines in Sardinia reaches as far as 40%. Wine, in a sense, has eclipsed even the fame of such species, like Vermentino di Sardegna and Vermentino di Gallura.
Alghero DOC is produced in several different varieties based solely on one vine variety. May be red, pink or white. Of the different Alghero species, Torbato and Vermentino Frizzante have the largest share of production. (sparkling wine). Also noteworthy is the red wine Cagnulari, produced from the oldest, autochthonous strain of the same name. Wine has a beautiful, lightrubin color and very interesting aroma.
