Corti Benedettine del Padovano

Province of Padua in the Veneto region, and especially the basin area of the Brenta and Adige rivers, owes the excellent quality of its agricultural production to hard work, which starting from the twelfth century, the friars of the Benedictine Order put into the drainage and reclamation of the land, regulation of rivers and development of agricultural land. It was certainly not an easy task., given the frequent floods in these areas, that interrupted their work, and, On the other hand, hunger, malaria and other epidemics, which took a tragic toll on the local population

Monks, known for their Benedictine work, however, they did not give up. They managed to create a system of agricultural production based on monastery farms., called here Corte. Corte was a perfectly organized and self-sufficient farm, based on modern, for those times, Structures. Outside the separated part, in which the brothers lived, there were also residential buildings for agricultural workers and numerous farm buildings, Called cassone, with premises for storing crops and agricultural tools. Casone were also used as a shelter for livestock and a place to perform certain types of work.

This system was well organized enough, that it has survived to this day, in almost unchanged form, in certain wine production areas of Corti Benedettine del Padovano, whose name refers to the former farms (Corti). The wine production area of Corti Benedettine del Padovano includes areas bounded by the Brenta and Adige rivers and the motorway along the Adriatic coast, overlapping with the area, on which the former Benedictine farms functioned.

Corti wines include both white grades, as well as red, including some single-rotation. Red wines, who have obtained the right to appeal DOC is m.in. Cabernet Sauvignon, Raboso, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, while among white wines Pinot Bianco deserves special attention, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Tocai. The range of products is complemented by sparkling Moscato and sweet Passito, which are an ideal addition to biscuits, cakes and desserts .
