Saluzzo Hills

The appeal of Colline Saluzzesi DOC was brought to life in 1996 year. This decision was supposed to be a lifeline for local producers from the Colline Saluzzesi area, covering the upland areas of northwestern Piedmont, who had a hard time continuing the local wine traditions, based mainly on a very rare grape variety – Quagliano.

This variety is grown in a small area with the same name, in the province of Cuneo, comprising all the municipalities of Pagno and Piasco and part of the territory of the municipalities of Castiglione Saluzzo, Manta, Verzuolo, Search, Brondello, Castellar and Saluzzo. Quagliano is a very old and demanding strain. If, however, he is provided with favorable growing conditions, and above all, a properly sheltered place, gives large amounts, very sweet fruit. In the past, they were even used as table grapes.

The Colline Saluzzesi DOC appellation also uses another locally grown variety, which particularly likes sunny slopes. To Pelaverga, which gives wines with a full ruby color and complex aroma, perfectly combining notes fruity and spicy. Pelaverga wine is usually dry and well-balanced, but sweet species are also produced, filled with the aroma of ripe raspberries.
