When in 1996 The Controguerra DOC appeal was established, Only a handful of enthusiasts dealt with wine production in this area, and the total acreage of vineyards did not exceed 40,5 he has. However, the limited production potential did not hinder the further development of winemaking in these areas. Local growers began reorganizing and renewing their vineyards, without hesitating to introduce new ones, imported varieties, such, as Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay or Riesling, which were completely new to these lands.

This marriage of tradition and modernity turned out to be the right choice, as locally produced wines quickly enriched the DOC wine list of the Abruzzo region. The appeal covers both traditional wines, and young, a completely new range of products. Such diversification is the key to success in today's highly competitive environment, the international wine market.
