The Colli Perugini production area extends south of Perugia, on the right bank of the Tiber, in the hills of central Umbria. Particular attention was paid to the issue of cultivation specialization and the selection of varieties, which was aimed at obtaining the highest quality end product.

Terrain and climatic conditions in the area, as well as exposure to sunlight favor the vines to flourish. The main red varieties grown in this area, next to Montepulciano, also include Ciliegiolo, Barbera, Cabernet i Merlot. Among the white grape varieties, Trebbiano Toscano is the most important, Malvasia del Chianti, Grechetto, Chardonnay i Pinot Grigio.

From the point of view of the history of vine growing, noteworthy is the presence of old autochthonous varieties in the area of ​​Colli Perugini, such, how: Mostiola, Tintarolo, Pecorina i Lupeccio. Fact, that the hills of central Umbria are particularly suited to wine growing has been officially confirmed by a large group of experts, who noted the similarity of the soil composition of these lands and the soils of Champagne, in particular the Epernay area.
