Hills of Parma

Hills of Parma

The northern slopes of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines between the Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna regions and the border separating the Reggio Emilia and Parma provinces form a picturesque wine region with a fairly homogeneous character.

On the area, on which marls predominate, sandstones, Pliocene sands and clays coexist with two DOC appellations covering the wines of Colli di Parma and Colli Piacentini.

Red wines produced in the Parma area, formerly known as Barbera di Langhirano, they are now called Barbera, and fall within the appeal of the Colli di Parma DOC.

Langhirano is known not only for Barbera wine. It is also the production center of the famous Parma ham, which has excellent conditions for ripening in the local climate.

Among the white wines produced in this area, Malvasia Secca or Amabile deserve special attention. Already in Napoleonic times, wine was exported to France, where it pleased the palates of the most demanding connoisseurs.
