Botticino
BOTTICINO (DOC)
Botticino wine production area located in the eastern part of the region, in a small area of rocky hills surrounding Brescia, covers land belonging to the municipalities of Botticino, Brescia i Rezzato. The cultivation of vines in these areas dates back to ancient times. Discovery of fossil fragments in the province of Brescia wild vines, being the ancestor vinifera sativa vine (vine), allowed to state, that the grapevine was already present in this area in 5000 years before the advent of Christianity.
Botticino owes its name to a small commune, with which they have close ties. Evidence of this appears in many documents, that this wine played an extremely important role in the local economy, and trade in it flourished before the nineteenth century.
It should be noted here, that Botticino obtained the right to use the Denominazione di Origine Controllata appeal with considerable delay, because only in 1968 year, in response to the need to safeguard the value of the wine, which is mainly influenced by environmental conditions and the beneficial interaction between the local soil and the grape varieties grown on it. Wine connoisseurs often compare Botticino – in the most justified way and without misleading – with the most famous Italian wines.
