Capriano del Colle

CAPRIANO DEL COLLE (DOC)

Vineyards, belonging to this tiny DOC appellation lie in the hills, that surround Capriano del Colle. The grapevines do not cover enormous acres (vineyards occupy less than 25 hectares), however, their production is extremely significant, due to the fact, that it is an example of the willingness - also evident in many other Italian wine areas - to protect and promote the local oenological wealth, perceived undoubtedly more in its cultural aspect, than commercial.

Capriano del Colle wine - a sparkling drink with a vivid red color - is made of the Sangiovese and Marzemino varieties, with a little addition of the Barbera strain. However, for the production of white wine, which from year to year is gaining more and more followers, the Trebbiano strain is used.

These areas undoubtedly owe the economic boom to the strong industrial expansion of Brescia, however, the wine-growing and wine-producing traditions there are still very important to many of the inhabitants, the best expression of which is the Wine Festival held in Capriano del Colle in September each year.
