Carmignano and Barco Reale di Carmignano
CARMIGNANO i BARCO REALE DI CARMIGNANO (DOC)
It is one of the younger Tuscan DOC appellations (was established in 1994 year). It belongs to the appellate type cascade, that is, in the shape of a waterfall, which make it possible to obtain many different wines from one grape variety. This method has already been successfully tested in some areas of the DOCG.
Red wines from the Carmignano appellation have already secured a prominent place among good wines, however, it is also worth paying attention to other local wines. One should also not forget, that the DOCG Chianti Montalbano wine is produced on the same site. Carmignano hills, favorite place of the Medici family, include Barco Reale - a vast area, which used to be a hunting reserve. Today, Barco Reale is the name of an exquisite wine made from Carmignano grapes. In line with the local tradition of wine production, The tasty Vin Santo and rosé wines are also produced here, once known as Vin Ruspo.
The wines are made in the area, covering the municipalities of Carmignano and Poggio a Caiano, at maximum height 400 m a.s..m. on marl soils, slate and clay.
