CASTEL SAN LORENZO (DOC)

San Lorenzo area, located at the foot of the Matese massif, near the peaks of Ebrano and Mutria, in the south of the province of Salerno, guarantees spectacular views. At, the area with its old olive groves and vineyards boasting old olive groves and vineyards was already known in the Middle Ages for the production of wine and olive oil. The first traces of human settlements in this area date back to prehistoric times, and the ruins of a Roman bridge, near the church of Santa Maria della Strada are evidence of a rural settlement from a later period. The bridge was a fragment Via Latina - Roman road, which in antiquity crossed these areas. The first historical evidence of the existence of San Lorenzo is found in a 14th-century document, where the town is described as a Norman feudal village under the name of Limata.

 

Castel San Lorenzo wine is produced in the area of ​​seven municipalities, belonging to the province of Salerno. The heart of this hilly and rugged terrain, which is completely covered with sun-drenched vineyards is the Calore River. Mild climate, soil properties, old winemaking traditions and the use of low-yield farming systems do, that San Lorenzo can pride itself on the quality of its wines.

 

The most important wines produced in the San Lorenzo area are Barbera and Lambiccato – a sweet wine made from local Moscato grape clones. The Barbera, on the other hand, was introduced to the area a few decades ago with great results. Barbera of San Lorenzo, aged in oak barrels, it has a great structure and character.
