Cellatica
CELLATICA (DOC)
Marly-clay soil in the Campiani hills, Stella and Gussago in the province of Bresci provide an ideal environment for the Barbera varieties, Marzemino, Schiava, and for the modern strain called Incrocio (Hybrid) Third parties, which was created by pollinating Cabernet Franc with pollen of the Barbera strain. The grapes of the above varieties are used to produce Cellatica wine.
Already in Roman times, and even earlier there were vineyards in these areas, which coexisted with two other crops specific to the area - peaches, harvested in summer and with chestnuts, harvested in winter.
The municipality of Cellatica lies at the heart of this production area and has long been setting an excellent example, how collective efforts can protect and promote local heritage. This is what the spirit of teamwork has made, that already in 1934 In 2006, farmers there established the Celliatica Wine Producers Consortium. It was the first of a series of steps taken to promote the wines of the area, which culminated in granting them v 1968 year of the right to use the Denominazione di Origine Controllata appeal.
