Turin Hill

Turin Hill

Until the first half of the last century, Turin was the most important and richest market for wines from Piedmont. For many centuries, the city was the scene of fierce competition between the biggest brands in the wine world. Right here, where wines like Barolo competed with each other, Barbaresco, Until, Gattinara, Barbera, or Dolcetto, there was little space for the products of local winemaking, which developed in the areas located at the foot of the hills above the city.

Luckily for the local producers, the habits and tastes of consumers have changed in recent decades, who began to pay more and more attention to local products, produced on a smaller scale. This is how, also minor, local growers found a market niche for themselves, winning a group of loyal consumers, focusing primarily on the quality of wines, and which attach less importance to its name.

Among the group of wines included in the Collina Torinese DOC appellation, Malvasia deserves special attention, sweet, aromatic wine made from the indigenous grape varieties Malvasia di Schierano and Pelaverga (or Cari), light, semi-sweet red wine, with a characteristic mulberry color, obtained from the Pelaverga strain, only grown in these areas, in a very limited area.
