Coasts of Sesia
Area, on which the Coste della Sesia DOC wine is produced, it is also the cradle of famous wines with a rich tradition, which include the Gattinara DOCG and the Lesson DOC, as is usually the case in such cases, renowned wines with a recognizable brand overshadowed their less-known siblings with fame. And the fact does not matter much here, that lesser-known wines have enough strength and character in them, to be equally appreciated by experts. The market has its own rules, and in such a "crowded" market it is difficult to exist.
Nevertheless, the call to life in 1996 the year of appeal Coste della Sesia DOC gave local producers the opportunity to find a market niche for their wines, which, like no other, fully reflect the traditions of local winemaking.
The wines covered by the Coste della Sesia appellation are made from grape varieties, which have been present in these areas for many centuries. These are strains with an expressive character, among which Vespolina deserves special attention, Croatina i Nebbiolo. (the latter variety is called here Spanna, to distinguish it from the Nebbiolo strain grown in another part of Piedmont).
