Acqui lub Brachetto d Acqui

Acqui lub Brachetto d Acqui

Brachetto d Acqui is an excellent dessert wine, which, despite very limited production, is especially sought after on the other side of the ocean.

As tradition says, Gianduja was a special admirer of this wine (that is, Gioan d la Duja or Jan with a Jug), one of the most popular comic masks of the Italian Comedy dell Arte. The sparkling red-ruby drink with an aromatic foam was to be a source of inspiration and always good humor for this character. Gianduja had a reputation for not avoiding stronger alcoholic beverages. It was Brachetto that was able to satisfy his sophisticated palate, perfect for filling the pitcher, which he always carried with him.

Much controversy has arisen over the origins of Brachetto. The most compelling theory speaks of it, that it comes from a grape variety grown in the hills around Asti, in the region of Monferrato, where the production of many other Piedmontese wines is concentrated. Demaria and Leardi are advocates of a different theory, who in their publication "Ampelografia della Provincia di Alessandria" z 1875 r. they convince, that because of its aroma, the wine must come from the Nizza Marittima area (today's Nice).

Brachetto immediately brings to mind the image of holidays and festivals celebrated in the countryside in summer. People, attracted by the lights, which illuminated the surrounding hills, they eagerly gathered on the roads and around the houses, to have fun together with good food and drink.

Currently, the production area is rather limited and includes some municipalities in the province of Asti (mostly Nizza Monferrato) i Alessandria (in particular Acqui). Nevertheless, the poor availability of wine is compensated by its quality, which makes them unique.
