Albugnano
The Albugnano DOC appeal was formally established in May 1997 year. Wine is produced on a small, hilly area. It is situated north of Asti in Piedmont and includes the municipalities of Pino d Asti, Castelnuovo Don Bosco, The Albugnano family passed Marmorito. The wine owes its name to the latter town. Some of the surrounding hills rise to a height of approx. 520 above sea level, depending on the species, Albugnano can vary considerably in color, ranging in color from pink to ruby red, turning into a grenade, as the wine becomes more mature. A young and delicate wine with a pleasant feel, wine aroma, subjected to the aging process, turns into well-balanced, full-bodied dry or slightly sweet wine with a distinct fruity bouquet.
The history of Albugnano dates back to antiquity and the reign of Rome in what is now Piedmont. Lingers, that at that time Albugnano was a Ligurian colony. legend says, that a citizen of Rome had his villa in this area, a certain Albonius. The city founded in this place was to bear his name. From the Middle Ages until the end of the 18th century, Albugnano was a fief of the church in Vezzolano. The authority of the church was interrupted by 1800 Napoleonic rule established in northern Italy.
Albugnano is situated high 549 m n.p.m. from where the breathtaking stretches out, uninterrupted view of the four directions of the world. This place is called the "Monferrato Terrace" for a reason.. From the vantage point you can admire the panorama of the Alps and the outlines of the cities of Mondovì in the distance, Pinerolo, Ivrea, Vercelli, Novara i Asti. The landscape is drowned in the green of the vineyards to the very horizon, which remind us of the deeply rooted wine-making traditions of this region.
