Crispy Waffles

Crispy Waffles

I love these light and crispy waffles. Our waffle recipe is quick and easy to prepare and will make the best light and crispy homemade waffles.

These waffles are not Belgian waffles, which often require yeast or egg whites, which have been whipped to fluffiness. Instead, these easy waffles can be made quickly and require ingredients, we always have in the kitchen.

Ingredients for the waffle dough

Let me, that I will walk you through this, what you need, so that you can say goodbye to the tasteless ones, soft waffles and say hello to the waffles, which are light and crispy on the outside.

All-purpose flour is my favorite flour for these waffles. You can try whole grain flour, If you want, just expect it, that the consistency will be a little heavier.

Corn starch is our "secret ingredient" for making the most fragile waffle. When mixed with flour, corn starch is guaranteed, that the waffles will be perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

Baking powder and baking soda help waffles to grow and brown. For the lightest waffles, I recommend using both.

Sugar, salt and vanilla extract provide lots of flavor. I keep my sugar content low, because I love dipping maple syrup, but for sweet waffles you can increase the amount of sugar.

Milk and oil are the liquid ingredients in the recipe. You can use regular milk. As for the oil, I'm holding on to something, which tastes neutral, such as grape seed or safflower oil. For a coconut flavor, you can try melted coconut oil. If you are wondering about butter, you can use it, but the oil will produce a more light and airy wafer.

The egg adds delicacy and provides structure. One egg is enough. If you want waffles without eggs, you can replace them with linseed.

How to make buttery waffles

Since our waffle recipe was released, many of our readers have asked, can our waffle recipe be prepared using buttermilk. The answer is in 100% so! Because we rarely have buttermilk in the fridge, we thought, that is important, to share it, how to make them without buttermilk, but the great thing about this recipe is this, that you can use regular milk, and even buttermilk.

Step by step method of making waffles

The process of making these waffles could not be simpler. I'll show you, how i do it:

Beat the dry ingredients together. It's flour, corn starch, baking powder, baking soda and a little salt.
Whip the wet ingredients together in another bowl or do so, What am I doing, and blend them directly in the measuring cup. Bravo for less dishes!
Combine wet and dry ingredients. I'm killing, until I see flour streaks. If there are a few small lumps of flour left, no problem.
Put the dough back on 10 minutes. During this time, you can heat the waffle iron. 10 minutes of rest allows you to activate the baking powder.
Baking waffles. I use about 1/2 glasses of dough for each waffle, but the amount of dough will depend on the waffle iron.

For extra light and crispy waffles, separate the egg white from the egg yolk. Mix the yolk with the wet ingredients. Then beat the egg white, until a stiff foam forms. After the dry and wet ingredients have been combined, add the beaten egg whites. Separating the yolk and whipping the whites adds lightness to the waffles and makes them look good, that they are extremely light.
