Cilento
CILENTO (DOC)
South of Salerno, the Cilento area boasts a wonderful landscape. It is one of the least polluted, but at the same time – because of its rugged and dry lands - the poorest areas in all of Italy.
The grapevines currently growing in the area derive from the first shoots, which Greek settlers had brought to Elea and Paestum back in ancient times. The soil here is rich in clay and limestone, which fully allows local grape varieties to take advantage of the temperate climate prevailing there. Sante Lacerio – Pope Paul III's cellar claimed, that Cilento is a wine "suitably delicate, to eat them in the hottest heat" characteristic of the south of Italy and also "unsurpassed during a meal".
Vine growing on the dried one, difficult to cultivate land does not bring high yields, but it allows you to create an exquisite wine, which fits perfectly with simple, but extremely tasty regional dishes.
