Cinque Terre the Cinque Terre Sciacchetra

CINQUE TERRE i CINQUE TERRE SCIACCHETTRA’ (DOC)

The Cinque Terre is defined as the narrow strip of the Ligurian coast east of Genoa, covering the area of the municipalities of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola i Riomaggiore.

The typical grape varieties grown there are Albarola, Bosco i Vermentino. The origin of the first two strains is unknown, while the third one, Vermentino, appeared in this area recently. Initially, it was called Piccabon and had no connection with wine produced in the Cinque Terre..

Much has been written about the wine of the Cinque Terre, but no words or quotes, which would be able to fully reflect the local, absolutely captivating landscape. Vineyards are carved into rocky slopes, that emerge from the water, forming peaks towering over the sea. Mentions of wine from this region appeared in the prose and poetry of Boccaccio and Petrarch., and Pliny the Elder called it "moon wine.". The poet Giousè Carducci claimed, that this liquor is the quintessence of the "Dionysian intoxication of wine", Giovanni Pascoli demanded that several bottles be sent to him "in the name of Italian literature", and Gabriele D'Annunzio, an outstanding expert on temporal pleasures, praised its extremely sensual properties.

Despite all these praises, however, the wine has not made a great career in the world and none of the compliments, which was showered did not provide him with a place on foreign markets. Strong and constant demand for this wine is limited to the immediate vicinity, and the production produced there is largely purchased by numerous private customers, who go to the Cinque Terre especially to buy local wine.
