Amerini Hills
The hill-covered Colli Amerini area south-east of the Tiber, in the province of Terni (Umbria), for centuries it has been known for the production of the highest quality extra virgin olive oil. The following pattern is observed in Italy – on the grounds, with olive groves, you can also find vineyards. Both of these crops have coexisted for centuries also in the Colli Amerini area. Here, however, unlike other parts of the country, For centuries growers have clearly focused on producing olive oil, making guilty production a bit backward. All of this had a negative effect on the quality of the local wine.
In the 1980s, however, local farmers understood, that by improving the quality of locally produced wine (which until now, due to its raw and rough taste, was not suitable for wider distribution) have a chance to do, that wine would appear in other markets, thus joining the other highly valued products of this region. Efforts to improve wine quality, covering both the cultivation stage, as well as the production process itself brought the expected results and was crowned with the call to life in 2000 year of appeal DOC.
