Sabina Hills
The lands inhabited by the ancient Sabin people, former enemies of the Romans, they extend in the area between the present-day provinces of Rome and Rieti. For centuries, the area was known primarily for the excellent quality of extra virgin olive oil. As you know, in Italy everywhere, where there are olive groves, you can also find vineyards. Here though, unlike many other regions of Italy, and the production of oil was definitely set, and the winemaking fell on the second, somewhat forgotten plan. It obviously had an impact on the quality of the local wine.
In the 1980s, however, local farmers understood, that by improving the quality of your wine (red and rosé wines produced from the Sangiovese and Montepulciano varieties and white wines produced from the Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes) have a chance to do, that wine would appear in other markets, thus joining the other highly valued products of this region. Efforts have therefore been made to improve viticulture and winemaking techniques. The results did not take long to wait. Wine not only started to sell very well on the internal market, but also found some sales in international markets. From 1996 of the year, producers obtained the right to use the prestigious DOC appellation for their wines.
