Seed germination methods

seed germination1. Pour the cleaned and rinsed seeds into the jar. Intensely germinating seeds (np. lanterns) we pour a little, ok. 2 teaspoons for a quarter-liter jar.
2. Cover the jar with gauze and fix it with an elastic band. Pour water over the seeds for a period of approx. 8 hours. Slightly shorter - 5 hours - we can soak small seeds such as alfalfa, and a little longer (10 hours) - legumes and cereals.
3. After this time, pour out the water (it can be used for watering potted plants). The seeds germinate in a humid environment, but not in the water.
4. Rinse the seeds with water twice a day, pouring and pouring water from the jar. Only the wheat is not rinsed. After soaking and decanting the water, the wheat seeds germinate within 1-2 days without additional rinsing.
It is best during germination, if the jar is upside down, but at an angle (ok. 45°). This ensures an adequate supply of oxygen, and at the same time guarantees, that the seeds are not in the dripping water, which could cause them to rot.
The germination process should be warm (room temperature) and a dark place. For example, cupboards with shelves for drying dishes are perfect for this purpose, which can sometimes be found in our kitchens.
The germination time depends on the type of seeds used and the temperature. For example, for wheat, it is approx. 2 days, for sunflower - 2 days, for fenugreek 4—5 days, for radish approx. 5 days, for alfalfa 5-6 days.
This is where we finish the germination of some plants, e.g.. cereals, sunflower, kozieradki, mung beans, lentils and other legumes, except alfalfa.
5. Leafy sprouts, such as: lucerne, radish, Clover, cabbage, after a few days (np. in the case of alfalfa after 3-4 days, when the sprouts begin to fill the entire jar) put it in a bowl with water and rinse, gently tearing the clumped sprouts. We mix, so that the shells separate from the sprouts, which we then delete.
6. Then drain the sprouts on a sieve and place them in a large glass bowl, possibly to a bowl or a deep plate. It is a good idea to place a small plate upside down on the bottom of the bowl first, to avoid soaking the sprouts in dripping water. Cover the bowl with transparent foil, but not quite tight. Air supply is essential. We put out the lit place (window sill or shelf by the window) for 2-3 days, until the sprouts turn green.
