Barbaresco
Barbaresco is one of the most valued wines produced in Piedmont, for real connoisseurs.
This wine has a very long tradition. The first mentions of him can be found in the monumental work of Titus Livius on the history of Rome. According to the old tradition, one of the reasons for the arrival of the Gauls to the Apennine peninsula was the excellent wine from Barbaritium. This is where the name 'Barbariscum” and then Barbaresco. Another theory says, that the wine owes its name to the hordes of barbarians, which regularly ravaged italian territory before and after the fall of Rome.
In distant times, wine was also called Nebbiolo or Barolo, and strains such as Moscatello or Passeretta were also added in the production process, which gave it a sweetish and slightly sparkling taste. Barbaresco, as we know it today, or exquisite red wine, appears in relation to 1799 year, according to which the Austrian general Melas was to request "Nebbiolo di Barbaresco”, to celebrate his victory over the French with dignity.
Nevertheless, it was not until the mid-19th century that the production of dry wine began, which allowed to extract all its extraordinary qualities. Famous oenologist, profesor Domizio Cavazza, developed new methods of vinification and in 1894 In the year he founded an organization associating producers Barabresco. By comparing the wine it promotes with French wines, Cavazza emphasizes above all its "silky, smooth taste and a sophisticated bouquet.”
