Canavese
CANAVESE (DOC)
South of the ancient city of Ivrea, near the Aosta Valley, lies Lake Viverone surrounded by charming hills. This area – known as Canavese – has a rich tradition of viticulture and is the home of the legendary goddess Albaluce, whose memory survives in the name of the local vine – Erbaluce.
The first traces of viticulture in these areas date back to the pre-Roman period, and already in the Middle Ages, a number of rules were developed in the municipalities of Canavese, which regulated the production and sale of wine.
The appellation of Erbaluce di Caluso DOC was established in 1967 year, and in 1996 in the year another appeal was attached to it – Canavese DOC, which includes traditional white wine obtained from the Erbaluce variety, as well as a range of red and rosé wines made from native dark grape varieties such as: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Bonarda i Freisa.
