CAPALBIO (DOC)

Capalbio DOC is a wine-producing area located in the Tuscan hills in the southern part of Grosseto, which borders the Maremma Natural Reserve and covers the municipalities of Magliano, Capalbio, Orbetello i Marciano.

There are two other DOC appeals in this area – Parrina i Ansonica Costa dell Argentario, they confirm the existence of a wine-growing tradition in the area. There is a lot of evidence, which testify to this, that the ancients exported local wines to distant lands, using the Roman port of Cosa for this purpose. Wine was also exported regularly in the Middle Ages and in the 17th century.

Capalbio DOC's appeal covers both blinds, as well as bright grapevines grown in the sun-drenched hills, which lie just behind the typical Mediterranean thickets, overgrowing the shoreline. An incredibly wide range of possibilities makes, that despite the existence of a rigid specification, in force at the Capalbio DOC appeal, producers are still striving to improve the quality of local wines.
