Capri
CAPRI (DOC)
In the search for the origins of the wine-making tradition in the Campania region, one would have to go back nearly three thousand years. Rocky slopes of the island of Capri, on which countless small terraces have been built, used for crops, provide an extremely favorable environment not only for vines, but also many other crops.
W 29 r. p.n.e. Emperor Octavian was so enchanted by the beauty of Capri, that he acquired the island, offering more Ischia in return. His successor, Emperor Tiberius settled on Capri – where he lived in between 27 a 37 a year – and erected on the island 12 wonderful villas, dedicated 12 the god of Olympia. The emperor himself ruled the Roman Empire from the Villa of Jupiter for nearly a decade.
The Capri wine produced on the island was especially liked by Tiberius, whom the subjects often called Biberius (step). Over the centuries, the inhabitants of the island continued to grow grapevines, sometimes planting shrub bushes even on the ruins of the emperor's villa. Drinking this wine today, we can therefore come into almost physical contact with the wonderful ancient world.
Wine has always been one of the island's attractions, and its quality was confirmed by the award of v 1977 year of the right to use a DOC appeal.
Capri White, made from strains of Falanghina, Greco i Biancolella, it is recommended primarily with seafood and fish in sauce, natomiast Capri Rosso – which is mainly made of the Piedirosso variety – it is considered a wine to go with the entire meal, especially with roasted white meats and main dishes typical of rural Neapolitan cuisine.
