Euganean Hills
The territory of the Province of Padua covers a vast lowland area, in the middle of which, in the very center there are the lonely conical peaks of the Euganean Hills ( Euganean Hills). The soil covering these hills is fertile and rich in minerals, long ago extinct volcanoes, create ideal conditions for the cultivation of vines.
The first evidence of wine production and trade in this area dates back to the first millennium BC. Since then, vineyards and wine have been an uninterrupted part of the history and culture of this region. The great Italian poet Francesco Petrarca himself succumbed to the charm of the Euganean Hills, acquiring in 1373 year house in Arqua. He later explained his choice by the excellent quality of the local wine..
In accordance with the generally accepted tradition in Italy, also here seedlings of different grape varieties were used to plant vineyards. In recent decades, guided by considerations of more rational cultivation, growers have completely rebuilt their vineyards, significantly changing the production profile. This new trend was initiated in the Colli Euganei area in the 1960s with the cultivation of single varieties. Most of the vineyards were used for the cultivation of the following grapevines: Moscato, Tocai, Merlot i Cabernet.
