Costa d Amalfi
The wine-making area includes 13 municipalities in the province of Salerno and creates an extraordinary landscape spectacle. Vineyards are terraced, often directly on the slopes of a cliff falling steeply into the sea or in narrow bads, to which the only possible way leads winding, climbing stairs. Each rock shelf, each natural terrace was used for the cultivation of vines. Local growers, nature has managed to wrest out literally every scrap of this land, with their own hands they built rock walls and carried tons of earth on their own shoulders, necessary for the establishment of vineyards.
In this amazing place, where climbing vineyards alternate with lemon groves, and everywhere you can feel the hypnotic aroma of citrus, which is mixed with the scent of the fresh sea breeze, unique Wines Costa d Amalfi are made, filled with the aroma of this land.
As part of the appeal, the DOC has been divided into three sub-categories, corresponding to the three main production areas: Furore, Ravello, i Tramonti. Only traditional grape varieties are used to produce wine. There is no room for any exceptions, for example, dictated by the current trends. Piedirosso grape varieties are mainly used for the production of red wine, Sciascinoso oraz Aglianico, which are often supplemented by lesser-known local varieties such, like San Nicola, Ginestra, Pepella, Biancazita or Bincatenera, giving the wine a unique character.
