It is obtained from the seeds of buckwheat celebrated by Mickiewicz ("White buckwheat like snow"). Made of honey buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) the bees collect a pungent taste, dark hrechany honey, especially useful for making gingerbread. Burned (or not) buckwheat seeds give tasty and healthy groats, which plays a very important role in old Polish cuisine. The famous were e.g.. roulades with groats. Loose roasted hreczana groats are an attractive addition to many meats, it can also be served with mushroom sauce as a healthy and tasty dish on its own.
