Kawon (Citrullus vulgaris)

Kawon (Citrullus vulgaris)

It looks not very big to the eye, green pumpkin. It comes from the gourd family, hence the similarity. In Poland, it is commonly known as watermelon. At the end of summer and early autumn, we import watermelons from the Balkan countries. His proper homeland is Africa. Ripe watermelon has salmon-red flesh. It is advisable to soak the watermelon for several hours in the cold (current) water, then the flesh will be refreshingly cool and very juicy. Raw watermelon slices, wrapped in a thin slice of ham, are an exquisite appetizer. Our grandmothers prepared delicate and decorative jam from the coffee.
