Sushi etiquette - what falls out, and what is not appropriate to do in a sushi bar

A visit to a sushi bar can be quite a challenge, especially when it comes to laymen on this topic. First of all, choose a set for yourself from the extensive list of dishes. If we are in doubt, which will be better for us - nigiri, hosomaki, temaki or sashimi, it's worth asking the chef for help. When we have the ordered food in front of us, is recommended, to dry your hands with a hot towel before eating, however, it is not served in all bars.

It should be

Sushi can be eaten with your hands or chopsticks, while sashimi only with chopsticks. Using only fingers, turn a portion of sushi to the side and grab it with your thumb, index finger and middle finger. Gently dip the end of the drape in a bowl with soy sauce, being careful, so as not to wet the rice or lose it in the bowl with the sauce. Using chopsticks, first you need to carefully break them. Place the lower stick in the recess between the index finger and thumb, propped up with your ring finger. The upper stick, on the other hand, is held between the thumb, index finger and middle finger. Turn the sushi to the side and grab it with chopsticks along its entire length. Dip the end gently in the soy sauce, without dipping the rice.

Dip the sushi in the soy sauce with the side, after which there is a fish, not rice. Putting sushi in my mouth, the fish should touch the tongue. We eat all sushi at once. When we are not using chopsticks at the moment, we don't put them on the table, but the edge rests on a special base. After the meal is finished, put them back on the soy sauce container.

It does not fall out

After separating the sticks, do not rub them together, to remove debris from them. Eating, do not bite off a portion of sushi and do not put the leftovers back on the plate. Also, let's not dip a whole batch of sushi in soy sauce, and also we do not combine wasabi with sauce, and the ginger is eaten between portions. We do not drink sake during the meal. While paying, we do not give money to the cook, because it is in contact with food.
